Workshop choices

Aligning expectations

  • Understanding patients' expectations and aligning them with your own, builds trust, saves time, and can avoid serious complaints
  • Managing patients’ expectations about how we will respond if something goes wrong increases satisfaction of the overall experience.

Getting consent right

  • Consent is not just about surgery or the risk of poor outcomes – it also involves examination, medication, treatment options and costs
  • It is a dialogue: understanding the patient’s concerns and making sure they understand what they should know, and want to know, before making a choice
  • Mastering these issues is critical to ensuring good patient care and minimising the risk of medico-legal issues.

Session 2

Good medication management

  • Medication is a key patient safety issue; and prescribing is just one step in good medication management
  • Key challenges include systems, patients, keeping up, regulatory requirements and technology
  • Thinking ahead and utilising the tools you have is key to avoiding problems later.

The complaining patient

  • Very few people who complain want to get involved in litigation or seek compensation
  • Litigation is often used as a last resort when all other efforts have failed
  • Feedback provides you with invaluable information that, if used effectively, enables you to understand patient needs, improve systems and procedures, and protect or enhance your reputation.

We are happy to help.
